Barnsley FC Supporters Trust

“Barnsley FC Supporters Trust would like to wish Andy Ritchie and the team all the best for the forthcoming season .”

The Barnsley FC Supporters Trust is the new Barnsley supporters organisation formed from the merger of the Supporters' Club and Supporters' Society.  The Trust plans to hold regular monthly meetings with players, management and officials of Barnsley FC.  The Trust will represent the views of supporters in discussions with the football club and on the national scene (via the Football Supporters Federation) and to update the membership on the ongoing activities of the Trust.   It will also aim to protect and promote the interests of disabled supporters' at both home and away games, including away travel.

The Trust will be involved in fundraising activities through various initiatives that will ultimately benefit Barnsley FC.  To this end the Trust already operates an online shop at www.buy.at/barnsleyfcsupporters where the Trust gains commission on all sales made through the shop.  Another initiative is TxtAid, a system where you can register your mobile to receive text messages and the supporters Trust will be paid for each text message you receive at no cost to yourself.  For more details on this scheme visit www.txtaid.org.uk /barnsleyfc

I n addition the Trust hopes to develop contacts and strengthen links with the Barnsley community and local businesses.  We also plan to catalogue and secure historical archive material related to Barnsley FC and to provide a museum at a suitable location within the borough of Barnsley.

The Trust has also taken on responsibility for running and promoting the Junior Tykes Supporters Club.    More details on the junior supporters will be available from the Supporters' office and via our website and regular updates will be available via the matchday programme.

There are many benefits to membership of the Trust including access to monthly meetings, £10 monthly prize draw, raffles and a 10% discount at the club shop (on production of valid membership card with photograph), excluding matchday programmes' .  To join the Supporters' Trust complete a membership form available from the Supporters office at the back of the enterprise stand or visit our website.  Membership starts from just £4.00 for juniors, disabled and the over 60's and £7.50 for adults.

The first monthly meeting of the new Trust is scheduled for August 16th.  Nominations from members for the new Trust board are also invited.  Twelve positions are available, so if you feel you have something you can offer the Trust, then why not stand for a position.  Each nomination must be accompanied by two proposers, more details can be obtained from the Supporters Office or contacting [email protected]

Yeovil Town

“Barnsley FC Supporters Trust would like to welcome the Supporters of Yeovil on their visit to Oakwell and wish them all the best for the forthcoming season .”

Barnsley FC Supporters Trust has been formed from the merger of the Supporters' Club and Supporters' Society.  One of the aims of the Trust is to represent the supporters both in discussions with the football club and also on the national scene.  The Trust has two members on the council of the Football Supporters Federation, a national body for football supporters.  In addition the trust holds regular meetings with the management of Barnsley FC.  As an example of the way in which the Trust represents the interests of the supporters, we have recently contacted the football league regarding the prices that Barnsley supporters are being charged at certain away games.

Football league rules state that the price differential should be charged 10% less than the cheapest covered seat for visiting supporters, unless the accommodation is considered of a higher standard than that provided to home supporters then a higher admission price can be charged.  The Trust has reported Scunthorpe United, Colchester United and Oldham Athletic for what we consider are breaches of this rule.  The Trust will be monitoring the admission prices for all games this season and if further instances of breaches of league rules are apparent more complaints will be made.  To this end supporters can help by contacting the Trust if you see potential breaches of the league rules.  The trust holds copies of the football league rules and premier league so if you have any queries please do not hesitate to contact us.

At the first meeting of the Trust on the 16 th August at Brooklands Hotel, Barnsley manager Andy Ritchie and assistant manager Rick Holden attended and conducted a question and answer session with members of the Trust.  More details on the meeting can be found on our website at www.barnsleyfcsupporterstrust.org.uk

The next newsletter for the Trust is currently being planned and written.  If you have any articles that may be of interest please contact the Trust via the Supporters Office in the Enterprise PLC stand or email [email protected]

Our Chair has been busy on your behalf over the last 6 months convincing the Football League to change the rules on away pricing.  Unfortunately the new rule put in place has created more problems and already discussions have taken place on the implementation of these rules.

Discussions have also taken place on the fact 2 of our games have been the subject of late postponements due to International Call-Ups.  It has been proposed that clubs with international players are subject to the same rules as in the Premier League and Championship ie. their games throughout the season that clash with internationals are automatically postponed.  This would do away with short notice postponements.

Further details of what is happening on the international & national scene are given at the regular Monthly meetings of the Supporters' Trust.
