Darlington (FA Cup 1st round) Programme Notes

The Barnsley FC Supporters Trust

“Barnsley FC Supporters Trust would like to welcome the Supporters of Darlington on their visit to Oakwell

Details of the New Junior Supporters organisation run by the Supporters Trust have now been announced and more details can be found elsewhere in this programme.  The Trust is running a competition for juniors to decide the name of this new organisation.  Details can be found in the Barnsley Chronicle and on our website.  If you want to join, write to Barnsley FC or the Supporters Trust at Oakwell or call into the Supporters Office on matchdays.

The next meeting of the football group in December will be Benny Hill’s ever popular Press Night.  More details of this event will be available in the next programme.  For those who have never had the pleasure of these evenings, Benny Hill, persuades members of the press, both national and local to attend the meeting and carry out a question and answer question on everything football, and occasionally other topical issues.

A commonly asked question we hear is “why should I join the Supporters Trust”.  Well, the Supporters Trust is the largest Supporters organisation for Barnsley Football Club, which was formed from the merger of the Supporters Club and Supporters Society.  The Trust is officially recognised by Barnsley Football Club and regular meetings are held to discuss events at the football club and information is exchanged between the Trust and Football Club regarding issues directly related to the Supporters.  In addition our chair, Alan Bloore is vice chair of the Football Supporters Federation, and as such is often involved in talks with the footballing authorities, police and government to improve the “lot” for the supporters at local, national and international levels.

In addition there are many material benefits to membership including a 10% discount on purchases from Oakwell Club Shop (excluding matchday programmes and match videos), free monthly members draw for a £10.00 voucher to spend in the club shop, membership of the Football Supporters’ Federation, 10% discount on all full price purchases from Barnsley Outdoor Centre, 35 Peel Parade, Barnsley, 10% discount on the usual prices charged by Kevin Manley, the Barnsley area agent for the National Legal Services, regular updates on Supporters’ Trust and National Supporters issues, Access to the regular monthly meetings where you have the chance to meet guests from the club and media.  Membership starts from £4.00 for juniors, disabled and the over 60’s and £7.50 for adults.  To join the Supporters’ Trust or to renew please complete a membership form available from the Supporters office or visit our website.
